Key Ingredients for Air Fryer Pizza Rolls

Creating perfect air fryer pizza rolls starts with selecting the right ingredients that balance flavor and texture while ensuring that every bite is as delicious as possible.

Pizza Dough: The foundation of these rolls is the dough. I recommend using store-bought or homemade pizza dough for convenience. If you opt for homemade, allow it to rise fully for that perfect chewy texture.

Pizza Sauce: A flavorful pizza sauce is crucial to keep the rolls moist and tasty. Whether you choose classic marinara or a zesty pesto, this ingredient adds a burst of flavor that complements the fillings perfectly.

Cheese: Mozzarella is the classic choice, melting beautifully to create that gooey, stringy effect we all love. Feel free to mix in some Parmesan or cheddar for an extra kick.

Pepperoni or Veggies: For a classic touch, pepperoni is great, but don’t shy away from incorporating diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or olives for a veggie twist.

Seasonings: A sprinkle of Italian seasoning, garlic powder, or even crushed red pepper flakes can elevate your air fryer pizza rolls with a depth that’s irresistible!

Choosing quality ingredients ensures each roll is a delightful burst of flavors, making this snack perfect for any occasion.

Cooking Tips and Notes for Air Fryer Pizza Rolls

Creating delicious air fryer pizza rolls is an enjoyable experience that can easily become a go-to snack for your busy days or weekends with friends. To ensure your pizza rolls turn out perfectly crispy and packed with flavor, I have gathered some tried-and-true tips for you.

Spray or Brush with Oil
A light coat of cooking oil can work wonders. Spray or brush a tiny bit of oil on your pizza rolls before air frying. This step helps achieve that delightful crunch without excess grease.

Don’t Overcrowd the Basket
While the temptation to fit as many pizza rolls as possible is real, give them some space! Air frying works best when hot air circulates freely. Overcrowding leads to uneven cooking, so aim for a single layer for optimal results.

Adjust Cooking Time for Frozen Varieties
If you’re using frozen air fryer pizza rolls, check the package instructions for recommended cooking times. You might find that they cook faster than expected, so set a timer for a few minutes less, checking for that golden-brown perfection.

Let Them Rest
After cooking, give your pizza rolls a minute or two to cool down slightly. This helps avoid burns from the hot filling and allows them to set.

Enjoy your flavorful and crispy snack—these tips will make all the difference in your air fryer pizza rolls!

Serving Suggestions for Air Fryer Pizza Rolls

Bringing air fryer pizza rolls to the table is always a hit, so why not elevate the experience with some thoughtful serving suggestions? First off, consider dipping sauces that complement the crispy, cheesy bites. Marinara sauce is a classic choice, but don’t stop there. Think garlic aioli or ranch dressing for a fun twist!

Pair your pizza rolls with a fresh garden salad. This adds a refreshing crunch that balances the indulgence of the rolls. For an extra touch, sprinkle some parmesan cheese on top of the salad and drizzle with balsamic vinaigrette.

If you’re hosting a movie night, arrange the air fryer pizza rolls on a stylish platter surrounded by various dips. This not only looks inviting but also encourages guests to try different combinations.

Lastly, don’t forget about drinks! An ice-cold soda or a light beer can be the perfect pairing to wash down those flavorful bites. Happy snacking!

Description

Delicious air fryer pizza rolls filled with savory ingredients, perfect for a quick snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup chopped onions (I like to use red onions.)
  • 1/2 pound ground sausage
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup pepperoni
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 64 wonton wrappers (The pizza rolls will be double wrapped)
  • cooking oil spray

Instructions

  1. Place a skillet on medium-high heat and add the olive oil and onions.
  2. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
  3. Add the sausage, Italian Seasoning, salt and pepper, and break it down using a meat chopper. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the sausage is no longer pink.
  4. Add in the garlic, marinara sauce, pepperoni, and mozzarella. Reduce heat to medium and allow the mixture to cook for 4-5 minutes.
  5. Line the wonton wrappers (double wrap the wrappers and use 2 wonton wrappers to prevent the rolls from breaking) on a dry cooking surface. Use water and a cooking brush to wet the 4 edges of each wonton wrapper.
  6. Load each wrapper with the filling. Focus on loading the filling toward one edge of the wrapper. That will make it easier to seal. I used 3/4 of a tablespoon of filling in each.
  7. Seal the wrapper. I like to seal them to make a rectangle. Use a wet cooking brush to seal the closed edge if needed.
  8. Spray the rolls with cooking oil spray (both sides) and place them in the air fryer. Do not overcrowd the basket. If you stack the pizza rolls, it may require a longer cook time and each roll may not cook at the same speed. I like to use Air Fryer Parchment Paper to make clean up easier.
  9. Air fry the rolls for 8 minutes on 370 degrees. Open and flip the rolls. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes.
  10. I love to dip these in warm marinara sauce.

Notes

  • The filling has to be loaded toward one edge of the wonton wrapper for easier sealing.
  • Using double wrappers helps in preventing the rolls from breaking.
  • Using Air Fryer Parchment Paper can simplify cleanup.
