Description

A simple and delicious homemade bread recipe using Greek yogurt for a unique twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup fat-free Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for brushing)
  • Additional flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, honey (or sugar), and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the Greek yogurt and activated yeast mixture.
  3. Using your hands or a dough hook attachment, mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  5. After the dough has risen, punch it down to remove excess air. Transfer it to a floured surface and shape it into a loaf.
  6. Place the loaf in a greased loaf pan. Cover it loosely with a cloth and let it rise for an additional 30-40 minutes.
  7. While the loaf is rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Once the dough has risen again, place it in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes. The bread should be golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
