Delicious and soft apple spice cookies, perfect for fall!
Ingredients

- 3 cups plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for dough)
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger (for dough)
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (for dough)
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves (optional, for dough)
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar (for dough)
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ cup (120g) unsweetened apple sauce or apple puree
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar (for coating)
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (for coating)
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger (for coating)
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (for coating)
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves (optional, for coating)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, and spices for the dough.
- In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and apple sauce; mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix the sugar and spices for the coating.
- Form the cookie dough into balls and roll them in the coating mixture.
- Place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add more ground ginger or cinnamon.
- You can substitute the apple sauce with mashed bananas if desired.
